Beyond Talk Therapy

Can you Tap Away Your Stress?

“The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.”  This is the “discovery statement” of the tapping treatment known as the Emotional Freedom Technique, also offered as the “Tapping Solution.”  Widely disseminated by Gary Craig on his website www.emofree.com, EFT is another energy-based treatment for reducing stress.

EFT is amazingly simple and easy to learn, yet the results can be phenomenal.   If you haven’t tried it yet, take a few minutes, watch the video and see whether you can tap away your stress.

My short EFT video demonstrates the “basic recipe” for EFT.  Once you identify the problem that brings up your negative emotion – [from addictive cravings to anxiety, physical symptoms, self-esteem, insomnia, guilt, grief, shame, public speaking, fears and phobias, sadness or anger – truly just about anything and everything that causes stress] measure it on a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the worst feeling you can imagine and 0 not bothering you at all.

Follow the video to tap the points on the energetic pathways of Chinese medicine known as meridians.  In a round or more of tapping, you may be relieved to note that your distress has been greatly reduced.

How it may work:  The entire universe is made of energy – the electromagnetic field that underlies all that is.  With this technique we are tapping on specific points to stimulate the flow of “chi” or healing energy in the human energy system.  As you tap the acupressure points on the energy channels or meridians, neuro-receptors under the skin convert the pressure to an electrical impulse that is transmitted to the brain.  Combined with your intention to heal and verbal cues to keep you focused on the problem that needs healing, the tapping also stimulates and releases endorphins, the pleasure hormones that send positive messages to your brain.

Self-soothing is a vital skill, especially in our increasingly stressful environment, so I continue to offer video tools on my website to help you help yourself. There are times, however, that negative emotions require professional help.  I am here for you when those times arise.
